Magazzino Culturale "Ex oleificio"
A dream that has only changed shape…
In 2019 we realized our biggest dream with the opening of the Magazzino Culturale “Ex oleificio”, a cultural center born from the redevelopment of a space that housed an oil mill and which offers free cultural events and artistic workshops, constantly making itself available to the territory and to anyone in need.
The dream of redemption of this land starts from Gioacchino Vitellaro who, before leaving us prematurely, created this space in 1989 starting a visionary work of valorization of our most precious treasure, oil ... today the dream has only changed shape but left its essence intact. The matter that we deal with today is culture! It seems something intangible compared to the pragmatism of oil while they are, in reality, two deeply interconnected matters: culture is wealth like oil and oil is culture, a concrete metaphor of the precious history of Milena, our country, unconventional and unique, deeply peasant.
The Cultural Warehouse wants to be a container of ideas and projects, a creator of opportunities, a private space that has become public and that no longer produces oil but culture, donated to a community for the rebirth of a territory.
In addition to a cinema theater, a multi-library, a mini-workshop and spaces for workshops, laboratories, exhibitions, assemblies and events, it houses the accommodation space which is, at the same time, a home for volunteers, a residence for artists, a point for the reception and support of pilgrims who undertake the Magna Via Francigena, an ancient path from Palermo to Agrigento, which also passes through Milena, recently rediscovered and valorized.
